SPSS 1 helps you get started, in the best way possible, with both SPSS and the fundamentals of statistics. The course content is Data and graph management together with Basic statistics. As in all our courses, theory is alternated with examples, own exercises and provides a perfect introduction to both the SPSS program and basic statistics.
Goals: To be able to easily manage and describe a data material using graphs and tables in SPSS. The goals are also for you to understand and to know how to apply basic statistical methods using SPSS.
Prerequisites: No specific requirements for prior knowledge in SPSS.
Data and graph management
You will learn to master both the basic and more advanced functions of the program, ensuring smooth workflow. The basics include structuring a “database” from scratch in SPSS and importing data from other sources such as Excel. More advanced functions covered include creating new variables, recoding existing ones, including or excluding observations, and handling time and date formats. During the course, you will practice and become familiar with the most common tables and graphs (such as frequency tables, histograms, bar charts, and scatterplots) available in the program, as well as learn how to edit, save, and export them. You will also learn how datasets must be arranged in order to create certain specialized graphs, such as forest plots.
Basic Statistics
This course covers many of the fundamental statistical concepts used in statistical inference. Statistical inference involves generalizing results from a sample to a larger population. Key concepts include hypothesis testing, p-values, and confidence intervals, while methods include correlation, t-tests, and tabular statistics. These skills are essential for applying more advanced methods such as regression and ANOVA. The course serves as a solid introduction, suitable both for beginners seeking new statistical knowledge and for experienced learners wishing to refresh their previous skills.
